Five candidates will stand in a by-election for a Vale of Glamorgan Council seat in the Illtyd ward of the Barry.
Voters will go to the polls in the Illtyd ward of Barry on Thursday 11th September
The candiates are:
- Conservative: Vincent Bailey
- Plaid Cymru: Taif Ball
- Labour: Aled Blake
- Green Party: Aoife Blight
- Reform UK: Brandon Dodd
At the last local elections in 2022, Labour gained two of the three seats in Illtyd from the Conservatives.
Cllr Naomi Marshallsea, who topped the poll, went onto become Mayor of the Vale of Glamorgan, while Cllr Janice Charles held on for the Tories.
The upcoming vote could allow Reform to gain their first seat in the Vale, following a flurry of recent by-election victories across Welsh councils - but last week, the Greens clinched a former Labour seat in Grangetown on neighbouring Cardiff Council.
Plaid Cymru doubled its number of county councillors at the last local elections - with recent opinion polls suggesting they're in a two-way fight with Reform heading into next year's Senedd elections.
Of the eight wards that make up Barry, the Illtyd ward is among the three that are split between parties.
Both the Buttrills and Casteland wards - which have two seats each - includes one Labour councillor and one Plaid Cymru councillor.
Cadoc, Court, Gibbonsdown, and Dyfan are all held by Labour, while Baruc is held by three Plaid Cymru councillors.
