Work is underway on a new £20 million housing scheme for older people in Penarth.
Around 70 extra care apartments are being built near Myrtle Close, close to the Tŷ Dewi Sant care home and another residential scheme at Oak Court.
Vale Council says it's the latest step in a bigger project to bring together new and existing homes for older people with nearby social care and health facilities.
Council leader Lis Burnett said: "It will provide much-needed affordable accommodation for older persons in Penarth and is a fine example of what can be achieved through effective partnership working by public sector organisations."
"In time, we hope other elements can be added to the scheme to provide comprehensive support for its community of residents."
"Our Let's Talk about Life in the Vale Survey revealed that two main priorities for residents are: easily accessible care and healthcare services and being able to buy or rent a good quality home. We also know that these are both concerns for older people."
"It is vital that we listen to such feedback and developments such as this represent a significant step in helping to address those concerns."
The new development, based on a 3.6 acre site and part funded by the Welsh Government, is expected to take two years to complete.
It will include self contained apartments aimed at over 55s, who want to live independently within a supportive community, along with a restaurant, lounges, a laundry and communal gardens.
The building is designed to be highly energy efficient, resulting in low heating and hot water costs for residents.
Wales and West Housing say construction work has been progressing well since partners JG Hale moved on-site during the summer.
W&WH head of development, Jon Harvey, said: "We're pleased to be working in partnership with the Vale of Glamorgan Council to meet the housing and care needs of older people in the area."
"This is our fifth extra care scheme in Wales and work is progressing well. The majority of the groundwork has been finished, and the next stage will see the frame going up."

Vale Council also has further plans for build another 48 homes on adjoining land as part of a further independent living development for older people.
