Gavin and Stacey star raffles off signed Finale Script

The raffle is raising money for the charity The Theatre Shed

Robert Wilfort who plays Jason West in Gavin and Stacey is raffling off his copy of the script from the upcoming finale.

Filmed in Barry back in the Autumn, the finale is expected to be the most-watched TV show of 2024, with Robert saying he wanted to make an impact whilst there's the hype and excitement around the finale episode.

Speaking to Vale Breakfast on Wednesday 18th December, Robert said "So here it is, this is the complete script for the finale, and it's got signatures by everyone on it. We've got all the main cast, including Dawn and Pete. Pam and Mick, we've even got the director's signature on there, the wonderful Chris Gernon."

"I'm raffling that off for a fantastic charity that's based locally to me, they're called The Theatre Shed. They are a young person's theatre group, but they're completely inclusive. So, it's for children and young people with disabilities, with mental disabilities, physical disabilities, and for children without. So they all come together and they create original work. It's just the most lovely environment."

"I've been to quite a few of their productions. They're always kind of heartwarming and wonderful and it's so important for, kids to have access to theatre and to performing. So I've had a long association with them."

"It's an online raffle, not an auction. So it's not kind of, if you've got a thousand pounds, you're going to be the winner, it's five pounds a ticket and everyone who enters has a chance to win and it'll all be drawn in the new year."

Speaking of the industry, Robert says the industry is in a worrying place.

"It's always been hard to get into and it's always been hard to sustain a career, but now it's even harder now, with the cost of living and everything. There's less stuff being made in some areas, so there's, there's less and less people from the kind of like working-class backgrounds, who are able to get into the industry. Theater Shed offer bursaries to kids who can't, afford to come where they feel it's important to come."

"The arts have been cut in schools as well. I went to Porthcawl comp, not far from Barry. We had a great drama teacher there who encouraged us all and I went to a local drama group. I was lucky enough to get into drama school and I had a lot of help along the way from a lot of different people, but I do worry about the industry."

"I think we need more people. We need more Welsh voices. We need more voices from all over to come in and so it's really important. What I'd like is a big injection from the government really to help schools you know, realize that we have this amazing industry and we're so talented at it over here and we just need to be open to more people."

The raffle to win an original signed copy of the Gavin and Stacey finale script is open until 13th January 2025, with tickets available to purchase at £5 each.
