An annual Christmas candlelighting event has been held at Merthyr Dyfan Cemetery in Barry.
The chapel is open on the last Sunday before Christmas to give people the chance to light a candle in memory of a loved one and share a moment of quiet reflection.
This year's event - organised by local councillors Nic and Shirley Hodges - raised £285 in aid of the Mayor of Barry's chosen charities, Valeways and Mind in the Vale.
Cllr Nic Hodges, who chairs the halls and cemetries committee at Barry Town Council, said: "We open Merthyr Dyfan Cemetery chapel for a candle-lighting event three times a year, on the Sunday before Christmas and on Mother's Day and Father's Day."
"It gives people a chance to remember loved ones while visiting graves in the cemetery, the second largest in Wales, but also somewhere for people to go whose loved ones are buried elsewhere."
"The cemetery chapel is an important building in its own right, having been refurbished a little over twenty years ago to make it better to visit, but containing many original features, as well as memorials to those who died in World Wars and a plaque for Barry-born journalist, Gareth Jones, who raised awareness of the Soviet man-made famine in Ukraine."
"Having organised this for nearly twenty years, I would like to thank Barry Town Council staff at Merthyr Dyfan Cemetery for their help and support in putting the event on."
Cllr Dennis Clarke, Barry Town Mayor, added: "I would like to thank everybody who donated whilst at the Christmas candle lighting event, supporting my charities, Valeways and Mind in the Vale, who help with people's physical and mental health."
