A popular TV series about Ysgol Y Deri has missed out at the prestigious BAFTA Cymru awards.

The third series of 'A Special School', which aired on BBC Wales late last year, followed the pupils, parents and staff at the Penarth school for pupils with additional learning needs.

It was nominated for Best Factual Series, but lost out to S4C's 'Marw gyda Kris', in which comedian Kristoffer Hughes looked at how death and grief was treated around the world.

All three series of 'A Special School', produced by Slam Media for BBC Wales and the Open University, were nominated for BAFTA Cymru awards, with series two going onto win a Royal Television Society award last year.

The big winner of the night was the BBC drama 'Lost Boys and Fairies', which scooped five awards including Best Actor for Sion Daniel Young in the lead role of Gabriel.

Best Actress went to Anna Maxwell Martin, who played Delia Balmer in the ITV true crime thriller 'Until I Kill You'.

S4C Newyddion anchor Bethan Rhys Roberts took home Best Presenter for her work anchoring the channel's general election coverage as well as the Sian Phillips Award.

Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies won the Outstanding Contribution award for his 40-year career in television.
